INTREPID™ MicroPoint™ Cable Installations Reach 7 Million Feet Southwest Microwave Achieves Important Milestone in Site Protection
Southwest Microwave celebrates yet another important milestone with its INTREPID™ MicroPoint™ Cable intrusion detection system. First introduced in 1998, the INTREPID has now been installed on 7 million feet (2.1 million meters) of perimeter fence worldwide. The INTREPID’s ability to pinpoint perimeter disturbances and eliminate nuisance alarms has made it the solution of choice for government, military, correctional and industrial facilities around the globe.
“Customers are specifying MicroPoint Cable because of its unique detection and location capabilities,” said Bob Kirkaldie, Director of Sales and Marketing for Southwest Microwave. “Seven million feet in the field is a true testament to the performance of this state-of-the-art security system. We are targeting 10 million feet of fence coverage within the next two years.”
INTREPID MicroPoint Cable is tie-wrapped to a facility’s perimeter fence where it detects vibrations along the fence fabric. The system’s ‘smart sensor’ technology can precisely locate a cut or climb attempt to within 10 feet (3 meters) of the occurrence while ignoring harmless, distributed disturbances such as wind, rain or vehicle traffic. Traditional fence-mounted systems can only attribute disturbance location to a specific zone.
“MicroPoint Cable is significantly more accurate than other fence detection products on the market,” Kirkaldie said. “We have built an exceptional following in the marketplace as a result of the system’s unique ability to differentiate between an intrusion attempt and harmless, fence noise. INTREPID solves the nuisance alarm problems that plague traditional fence sensors.”
INTREPID MicroPoint Cable can operate under the most extreme conditions, which is another reason why customers have high regard for this perimeter security system.
“From the sub-zero winters of Siberia to the hot desert climate of the Middle East, many of our users face serious environmental challenges, “ explained Kirkaldie. “MicroPoint exhibits sustained reliability in harsh outdoor conditions, which is critical for a security device.”
Kirkaldie also attributes MicroPoint Cable’s popularity to the system’s ease of installation and extensive controllability. Intuitive, Windows®-based set-up tools include a patented calibration feature that compensates for variations in fence fabric and levels detection sensitivity across the entire protected area. Detection zones may be specified in system software anywhere along the cable, reducing hardware requirements, lowering installed cost and increasing performance over other fence-mounted systems.
“Our customers also appreciate INTREPID’s range of monitoring options,” Kirkaldie said. “Depending on their site considerations and budget, users can incorporate a basic map display that will detail precise alarm location and integrate auxiliary sensors and cameras, or opt for an advanced head-security management system that offers centralized control of perimeter security operations across multiple sites.”
“We’re extremely pleased that the INTREPID system has gained such broad acceptance worldwide, and that it supports our customers in achieving greater levels of security,” Kirkaldie added.
