RM83 Performance Monitor Simplifies Microwave Alignment
Southwest Microwave’s microwave sensors have been safeguarding military installations, critical utilities and other high security applications since 1971. The technology is dependable and proven. Despite this impeccable track record, microwave security systems must be regularly and properly aligned to function at optimal energy levels. Some technicians align the units visually – eyeballing them or even resorting to using the scope of a rifle. Others, preferring a faster, more accurate approach, rely on microwave alignment tools like Southwest Microwave’s RM83 Performance Monitor.
“The RM83 is a powerful yet easy-to-use test instrument designed to simplify the process of adjusting outdoor microwave security systems,” says Gary Martin, a Technical Sales Representative for Southwest Microwave. “It’s easy to connect the unit to the sensors, and there are only a few steps in the testing process. Plus, the RM83 is backward compatible with any of Southwest Microwave’s existing microwave systems, and may be used anywhere our older RM82 performance monitor was used.”
Upgraded, Enhanced Design
Upgraded and redesigned based on the RM82 platform, the RM83 Performance Monitor makes it simpler than ever for technicians to check microwave input voltage levels, alignment and alarm thresholds. This feature- and benefit-laden accessory underscores Southwest Microwave’s commitment to offering customers continuously improving technologies and service tools to make microwave security devices even more robust and dependable.
Weighing just .62 pounds and packaged in a lightweight carrying case with shoulder strap, the RM83’s sleek, compact design is operator-friendly and intuitive. The monitor works on Outdoor Microwave Transmitter / Receiver (T/R) Link Models 300B, 310B and 316 as well as on Outdoor Microwave Transceiver models 380 and 385. General instructions for use of this handy alignment device are contained in each of the microwave technical manuals. Comprehensive operating instructions accompany the unit itself.
Combining New and Old Features
The RM83 offers additional new features that make it even more attractive and beneficial to technicians. The unit comes with DC and Doppler jacks on the side panel, offering greater flexibility. The Doppler jack allows the RM83 to be connected to an oscilloscope or RMS meter to visually see and measure signal and noise levels on all models. The monitor includes a new solid state digital display meter that provides more reliable indications of circuit parameters than the RM82’s mechanical meter movement. The RM83 also features a louder walk test indicator, and offers increased alarm volume for the operator over longer distances.
Retaining several features from the earlier model, the RM83 also includes an audio alarm for use during intrusion testing, sensitivity metering that evaluates potential nuisance alarms, an alarm light for nighttime applications and a universal amphenol connector that allows quick connection without removing the radome.
By maximizing efficiency and ensuring a fully functional microwave system, the
new RM83 Performance Monitor makes aligning microwave technology a simple
and easy task.
